Qatar has announced a partial reopening of its airspace to allow limited flight operations as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East following the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

According to international media reports, Qatar’s civil aviation authority said the country will permit only a restricted number of flights for now. The reopening will primarily allow evacuation flights and essential cargo services after nearly a week of widespread flight suspensions in the region.

Officials said the gradual resumption of air traffic will depend on the evolving security situation in the region.

Authorities at Hamad International Airport in Doha also confirmed that the expansion of flight operations in the coming days will be determined by safety conditions.

Earlier this week, Qatari officials said the country’s military had thwarted an attempted Iranian attack targeting the airport.

The Qatar Ministry of Defence said on Friday that nine drones were intercepted by the country’s defence systems. The drones reportedly landed in an uninhabited area and no casualties were reported.

Several Middle Eastern countries have suspended or restricted air traffic since the conflict intensified, disrupting regional aviation and forcing airlines to cancel or reroute flights.
