The Ministry of Religious Affairs has instructed 30 leading Hajj agencies to complete visa processing for all pilgrims by March 5. The directive also requires health examinations, vaccinations and group arrangements to be finalised before the deadline, says a press release.

On Wednesday, the Ministry sent letters to agencies whose 7,355 registered pilgrims have not yet completed their medical checks. Bangladesh Overseas Services has the highest number of pending health examinations, with 1,306 pilgrims still to be cleared, while Ehsan Air Travels has the lowest, with just 10 remaining.

The letter noted that the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set March 20 as the final deadline for completing visa processing. It stated that obtaining a fitness certificate through a health examination and receiving the required vaccinations are mandatory before visa procedures can begin.

The Ministry explained that forming pilgrim groups and completing related administrative steps typically take between five and 10 days before visas can be issued. Additional time may be needed in the event of technical complications.

The letter further emphasised that government offices in both Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia will remain closed during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays around March 20. As a result, all health checks, vaccinations and visa processing must be completed well in advance to avoid disruption.

The directive comes as authorities seek to ensure smooth Hajj operations for Bangladeshi pilgrims this year. Agencies that fail to meet the deadline risk causing complications for their registered pilgrims intending to perform the religious pilgrimage.

The Ministry said its proactive measures are aimed at preventing a last-minute rush and possible delays that could disrupt travel plans. The mandatory health screening is intended to ensure pilgrims are physically fit for the demanding journey and rituals.
