Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita on Thursday directed officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh to ensure expatriate-friendly services at airports and strictly enforce a zero-tolerance policy against irregularities.
The minister issued the instructions while speaking at a meeting with officials and employees of the aviation authority at its headquarters in Kurmitola, Dhaka.
State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat also attended the meeting.
At the start of the session, officials introduced themselves and briefly discussed the history and responsibilities of the aviation authority, including its role in managing Bangladesh’s airspace and aviation infrastructure.
Following the meeting, the minister and the state minister visited the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to review progress in its implementation.
They urged relevant authorities to work together to expedite preparations so the terminal can be opened for public use as soon as possible.
The delegation also inspected the airport’s cargo village and the import cargo terminal, both of which were recently affected by a fire, and reviewed the current situation and recovery measures.
Speaking to staff members working in the airport lounge area, the minister stressed the need to improve the quality of services provided to passengers, particularly expatriate workers returning home from abroad.
“Many expatriate Bangladeshis face difficulties at airports because they are unfamiliar with procedures. We must ensure they receive respectful and efficient service,” she said.
She noted that remittances sent by overseas workers play a vital role in the national economy and called on airport personnel to treat expatriates with the highest level of respect and sincerity.
The minister also warned that the ministry would conduct surprise inspections to monitor service standards.
State Minister Millat said airport staff should demonstrate greater respect toward migrant workers and foster a culture of courteous communication. He also instructed officials to maintain cleanliness across airport facilities and strengthen monitoring systems.
He emphasised the importance of preventing future incidents such as fires or security risks by adopting strict safety measures. “Accountability must be strengthened at every level to ensure quality passenger services,” he said, adding that the government would follow a zero-tolerance approach to any form of irregularity.
Officials attending the meeting expressed their commitment to improving service standards and ensuring a more passenger-friendly environment at the country’s airports.
The meeting was also attended by Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal Mostofa Mahmud Siddique, along with other senior officials from the ministry and the aviation authority.
