India’s visa process for Bangladeshi citizens is expected to ease soon and return to normal, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman told Parliament on Tuesday.
He made the statement while responding to a written question from Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal during the 23rd sitting of the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, reports TBS.
The minister said the government is actively working to resolve the current stagnation in visa processing and simplify access for Bangladeshi travellers, while continuing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties with India.
He described Bangladesh’s relations with India and other South Asian neighbours as being built on goodwill, friendship and solidarity—rooted in shared history and strong people-to-people connections.
“The government has been advancing relations with India based on sovereign equality, fairness and mutual respect, while safeguarding national interests,” he said.
Khalilur Rahman also highlighted recent high-level engagements in New Delhi, where he held meetings with India’s foreign minister, petroleum and natural gas minister, and national security adviser.
He said the discussions were “very fruitful”, adding that Bangladesh strongly urged the restoration of normal travel and business visa services for its citizens.
“Positive changes in visa matters will come soon,” the minister told Parliament.
