Govt ensuring smooth Hajj travel: Minister
Most of the Bangladeshi pilgrims have already reached Saudi Arabia safely, while the rest are expected to travel on schedule without any disruption
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam has said the government is taking coordinated steps to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey for Hajj pilgrims this year.
Speaking to journalists after inaugurating the Natun Kuri sports event at Shahid Miraj-Tapon Stadium in Manikganj on Saturday, the minister said the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry and the Ministry of Religious Affairs are working closely to manage the pilgrimage successfully, reports BSS.
She said most Bangladeshi pilgrims have already reached Saudi Arabia safely, while the rest are expected to travel on schedule without any disruption.
Addressing limits in aviation capacity, the minister said the government is working to expand the national fleet to meet growing passenger demand. “Due to a shortage of aircraft, steps have been taken to procure new planes,” she said.
On infrastructure, she added that the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is expected to be opened by the end of this year. Talks between Bangladesh and Japan on the project are now at the final stage.
Regarding speculation about a possible name change of Dhaka airport, the minister said there is no such plan at present. “Any decision will depend on public demand and the Prime Minister’s direction,” she added.
