Malaysia deports 245 foreign nationals, including 35 Bangladeshis
Those deported included 82 Myanmar nationals, 68 Indonesians, 35 Bangladeshis, 26 Pakistanis and 23 Indians
Malaysia has deported 245 foreign nationals, including 35 Bangladeshis, to their respective home countries, the Immigration Department said on Monday.
In a statement, the department said the repatriations were carried out in the final week of February under the supervision of the Johor State Immigration Office. The detainees had been held at the Pineapple Town Immigration Depot before being sent back.
Those deported included 82 Myanmar nationals, 68 Indonesians, 35 Bangladeshis, 26 Pakistanis and 23 Indians.
The group also comprised two nationals each from Nigeria, Vietnam and Thailand, and one each from Nepal, Syria, the Philippines, Cambodia and Congo.
All individuals were repatriated via Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminals 1 and 2 (KLIA 1 and KLIA 2), as well as through the Stulang Laut Ferry Terminal.
Authorities said the deportees either held valid passports or were issued temporary travel documents, known as Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs), by their respective embassies. The cost of air tickets was met through the detainees’ personal savings, financial assistance from family members or, in some cases, support from their embassies.
The Immigration Department confirmed that all those repatriated have been blacklisted in its system and will be barred from re-entering Malaysia for a specified period.
Officials said the deportation exercise forms part of ongoing enforcement measures to ensure that individuals do not remain in the country unlawfully after completing their sentences. Procedures related to repatriation, including ticket purchases and other formalities, are handled through a dedicated service counter at the Pineapple Town Immigration Depot.
