The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced jet fuel prices for both domestic and international flights following a series of sharp increases linked to instability in the global fuel market during the Iran conflict.

Under the revised rates announced on Thursday, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights has been cut by nearly Tk 22 to Tk 205.45 per litre from Tk 227.80 per litre.

For international flights, the price has been reduced to $1.3385 per litre from $1.4806 per litre, according to a decision taken at a BERC meeting.

Officials said the new rates came into effect on Thursday night.

The latest adjustment follows three consecutive price hikes in March and April amid disruptions in global fuel markets caused by escalating tensions involving Iran and joint military operations by the United States and Israel that began on February 28.

During that period, domestic jet fuel prices increased by around Tk132 in total, rising from Tk95.12 per litre to Tk227.80 per litre.

Industry insiders said the latest price cut could offer some relief to airlines struggling with higher operational costs caused by volatile global energy prices.
