Italy proposes bird control system at airport
Italian company The Edge Company is interested in developing a Bird Control Management System (BCMS) for airports in Bangladesh
Italy has expressed interest in supporting Bangladesh's aviation sector by introducing a modern Bird Control Management System (BCMS) at airports and establishing a training academy to enhance the skills of local aviation technicians.
The proposals were discussed when Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro paid a courtesy call on Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam at the ministry on Monday, says a press .
During the meeting, the ambassador highlighted the interest of Italian company The Edge Company in developing a Bird Control Management System (BCMS) for airports in Bangladesh, a move aimed at strengthening aviation safety by reducing bird-strike risks and improving airport operational efficiency.
He also elaborated on the interest of Flyon Aero in establishing a training academy in Bangladesh to enhance the technical expertise and professional capacity of Bangladeshi aviation technicians.
The two sides emphasised the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in civil aviation and related sectors as part of efforts to further strengthen the longstanding Bangladesh-Italy partnership.
Ambassador Alessandro appreciated the contribution of nearly 250,000 Bangladeshi workers to the Italian economy and thanked the government and people of Bangladesh for their role.
The adviser highlighted the need to increase flight frequencies on the Dhaka-Rome route to better serve the growing Bangladeshi diaspora in Italy. In response, the ambassador assured that appropriate measures would be explored to improve air connectivity between the two countries.
Afroza Khanam reiterated Bangladesh's interest in working closely with Italy to advance the aviation sector and discussed opportunities for attracting foreign investment through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives in airport expansion and infrastructure development.
Earlier in the day, the adviser met representatives of Singapore-based aviation company SATS, who expressed interest in providing ground handling services at the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
She invited the company to submit a formal proposal through the appropriate process, assuring due consideration.
