Biman plans 47-aircraft fleet by 2035
To support the expansion, the airline has already signed an agreement with US aerospace giant Boeing to purchase 14 new aircraft
National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand its fleet to 47 aircraft by 2035 as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen operations and meet growing passenger demand.
To support the expansion, the airline has already signed an agreement with US aerospace giant Boeing to purchase 14 new aircraft.
The information was disclosed by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam in a written response to a question from Chattogram-13 lawmaker Sarwar Jamal Nizam during the question-and-answer session in parliament on Wednesday.
According to the minister, Biman is also considering acquiring additional aircraft to develop a balanced mixed fleet and ensure the carrier's sustainable growth in the coming years.
If implemented, the plan would significantly increase the size of Biman's fleet over the next decade, enhancing its operational capacity and efforts to expand its network.
Afroza Khanam also informed parliament that Biman has added nine aircraft to its fleet over the past 15 years. These include two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners acquired in 2019, five Dash 8-400 aircraft purchased in 2020 and 2021, and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft added in 2021.
The planned fleet expansion comes as the national carrier seeks to modernise its operations, improve service quality and strengthen its position in regional and international aviation markets.
