Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam informed Parliament on Tuesday that the government has launched multiple initiatives to make Biman Bangladesh Airlines more profitable and globally competitive, reports BSS.

Speaking during a question-answer session, the minister stated that while Biman remains profitable overall—operating its own flights and offering ground handling services to other airlines—there is significant potential to improve efficiency and management standards.
She identified aircraft shortage as a primary obstacle to greater profitability. To address this, Biman has adopted a "Network and Fleet Plan" to induct new aircraft and phase out older ones. In the meantime, leased aircraft are being used to sustain and expand operations.

The Minister also highlighted improvements in passenger services, including an online ticketing system that has reduced harassment. Measures are underway to enhance flight operations, ground handling, and staff behavior through closer monitoring.

Regarding punctuality, Biman has achieved approximately 80 percent On-Time Performance on both international and domestic routes despite its limited fleet size.
