Bangladesh has officially begun work on its first Civil Aviation Master Plan (CAMP), a long-term strategic roadmap aimed at guiding the sustainable growth and modernisation of the country's aviation sector over the next two to three decades.

The initiative was formally launched at a workshop titled "Civil Aviation Master Planning Overview", jointly organised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and the Civil Aviation Academy, Bangladesh, in Dhaka on Sunday.

Officials said the master plan will serve as a comprehensive framework for the future development of the aviation industry, covering airport infrastructure expansion, the modernisation of air navigation systems, improvements in aviation services, workforce development, and enhanced safety and security standards.

The plan will also focus on adopting advanced technologies and aligning Bangladesh's aviation sector with international standards and best practices.

According to CAAB, Bangladesh currently lacks a unified national aviation master plan, making the CAMP initiative a significant milestone in efforts to build a modern and competitive aviation industry.

The authority expects the planning process to be completed within the next 18 months.

The project is being developed under the guidance of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with technical support from international aviation experts.

Addressing the workshop, ICAO aviation expert Mohamed El Amiri highlighted the key elements of successful aviation master planning and stressed the importance of a long-term vision to accommodate Bangladesh's rapidly expanding aviation market.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam inaugurated the workshop as chief guest, while State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat attended as special guest.

The event was chaired by CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, while Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob Khan, CAAB member (Operations and Planning), delivered the welcome address.

Officials expressed optimism that the master plan would lay the foundation for a more efficient, modern and globally connected aviation sector capable of supporting Bangladesh's growing economic and tourism ambitions.
