China warns Bangladeshi visa seekers against scam
The Chinese Embassy has warned Bangladeshi visa applicants against fraudulent travel agencies and urged them to apply directly through official channels
The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh has urged visa applicants to remain alert to fraud, reaffirming its commitment to offering efficient visa services for Bangladeshi citizens. The Embassy said it will continue taking steps to ease travel and exchanges between the two countries.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the Embassy clarified that it has not authorised or partnered with any exclusive visa agency or service provider. It warned that legal action would be taken against anyone falsely claiming to represent the Embassy for commercial visa processing activities.
The Embassy said it recently detected various irregularities by some travel agencies handling Chinese visa applications. These included submitting fake documents, concealing service charges, exaggerating the complexity of obtaining visas, delaying applications, spreading misinformation, and misleading applicants. According to the Embassy, such practices have disrupted visa processing and negatively affected applicants.
To improve oversight of visa-related services, the Embassy announced that from July 5, 2026, all Bangladeshi travel agencies processing Chinese visa applications on behalf of clients must hold accreditation from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The Embassy also stressed that no agency would receive special advantages or relaxed screening procedures. Applicants were encouraged to apply directly through the official Chinese Visa Application Service Center website instead of relying on travel agencies, especially if they have complete and valid documents.
Additionally, the Embassy requested people to report any suspicious or unethical activities by visa agencies through its official email channels.
