US embassy clarifies B1/B2 visa responsibility
Visitor visas are non-immigrant visas for persons who want to enter the United States temporarily for business (B-1 visa), for tourism (B-2 visa), or for a combination of both purposes
It is your responsibility to ensure the proper use of your visa, said the US Embassy in Dhaka on Sunday, addressing the B1/B2 visa holders.
In a post on its official Facebook page, the embassy said, "You are responsible for using your visa correctly."
According to the embassy, generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to travel to the United States must first obtain a visa, either a non-immigrant visa for a temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence.
Visitor visas are non-immigrant visas for persons who want to enter the United States temporarily for business (B-1 visa), for tourism (B-2 visa), or for a combination of both purposes (B-1/B-2 visa).
The activities allowed on B-1 visa include consultations with business associates, attending scientific, educational, professional, or business conventions or conferences, settling estates and negotiating contracts, cited the embassy.
The activities allowed on B-2 visa include tourism, vacation (holiday), visit with friends or relatives, medical treatment, participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations, participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests - if not being paid for participating and enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation).
