A new body, the Bangladesh Aviation and Tourism Journalists Association (BATJA), has been formally launched in the capital with the aim of safeguarding the professional interests and improving the skills of journalists working in the aviation and tourism sectors.

The association was established at a meeting held on Sunday afternoon in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, bringing together media professionals who specialise in aviation and tourism reporting.

A nine-member executive committee was unanimously formed at the founding session. Alimuzzaman Safwan, a reporter at Desh TV, has been named Convener, while Emon Chowdhury, a reporter at Ekushey Television, will serve as Member Secretary.

The other members of the convening committee are Md Shahadat Hossain (Desh Somachar), Tanzila Khan Meem (Ekhon TV), Kazi Faisal (Channel 24), Muhammad Jahangir Kabir (Daily Ittefaq), Mehedi Hasan Murad (Daily Inqilab), Ariful Islam (News 24), and Mahtab Minhaj (ATN News).

BATJA leaders said the organisation will promote stronger cooperation among journalists covering civil aviation, airports and airlines. It also aims to encourage data-driven, high-quality reporting while protecting members’ professional rights.

Speakers at the meeting observed that, given the importance and sensitivity of the aviation sector, the association will arrange regular training sessions, workshops and exchange programmes to further enhance members’ professional expertise.

The meeting was attended by the organisation’s advisers, Abu Darda Zubair, National Desk Incharge at Daily Amar Desh, and Rajib Khan, Head of Digital at Channel 24.
