PM Directs Swift Opening of Dhaka Airport’s Third Terminal: Aviation Minister
He has directed that measures be taken to launch the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as soon as possible
Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, Afroza Khanam Rita, has said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed authorities to take immediate steps to expedite the opening of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The minister made the remarks on Sunday while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat following a special inter-ministerial meeting on the project.
“He has directed that measures be taken to launch the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as soon as possible,” Rita said.

When asked about a potential timeline for the terminal’s inauguration, the minister said it was too early to specify a date. “We cannot give a definite timeframe at this moment. Discussions and reviews are ongoing to determine how it can be opened quickly,” she added.

Rita also noted that the government had briefed the Prime Minister on the current status of the project and received several directives. “We briefed the Prime Minister today. Based on her guidance, we will plan the next steps,” she said.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, was also present at the briefing.

Once operational, the third terminal is expected to significantly boost passenger handling capacity and modernise Bangladesh’s primary international gateway.
