US Pacific Fleet commander visits Lalbagh Fort
The visit highlighted the growing cultural and strategic partnership between Bangladesh and the United States

Admiral Steve Koehler, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, concluded his three-day official visit to Bangladesh with a tour of the historic Lalbagh Fort in Old Dhaka on Thursday.
The Admiral, who arrived in Dhaka on August 4, visited the restored Mughal-era hammam (bathhouse) at the 17th-century fort, accompanied by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen. During the tour, he learned about the US Embassy’s conservation initiatives aimed at preserving Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage at the site.
According to a press release from the US Embassy in Dhaka, the visit underscored the United States’ continued interest in Bangladesh’s cultural and historical heritage and its support for preservation projects in the country.
Admiral Koehler’s visit to Lalbagh Fort marked the final engagement of his Dhaka tour before his departure. His three-day official visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties and regional security cooperation between the two nations.
The Lalbagh Fort, an incomplete Mughal fort complex built in 1678 by Prince Muhammad Azam, stands as one of Dhaka’s most significant historical landmarks. The restored Hammam Khana, part of the fort’s original structures, represents a key example of Mughal architecture and has been a focus of recent preservation efforts supported by the US Embassy.
