The holy Eid-ul-Adha, one of the most significant religious festivals for Muslims, will be celebrated across Bangladesh tomorrow with festivity.
In the capital, the main Eid congregation will be held at 7:30 am at the National Eidgah, organised by the Dhaka South City Corporation. All necessary preparations have been completed by the DSCC. President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, along with cabinet members, judges, senior officials, and foreign diplomats, are expected to attend.
The National Eidgah spans approximately 30,000 square metres, including a 25,400-square-metre main prayer pavilion. With 121 rows, the venue can accommodate around 35,000 worshippers at a time. Separate arrangements have been made for VIPs and general worshippers, including designated spaces for women. Four entry gates and seven exit gates have been set up to ensure smooth movement.
Across the country, Muslim devotees will offer Eid prayers at Eidgahs and mosques in the morning. Religious scholars will deliver sermons highlighting the significance of Qurbani and the Islamic teachings of sacrifice. Following the prayers, people will exchange Eid greetings, strengthening social bonds.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued separate messages extending greetings to the nation. Leaders of various political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, have also conveyed their Eid wishes.
Authorities have implemented special security measures for the main congregation. Government buildings have been illuminated to mark the occasion, and special meals will be served at hospitals, orphanages, prisons, and childcare centres.
After Eid prayers, Muslims will sacrifice animals in commemoration of Hazrat Ibrahim's (AS) unwavering devotion and willingness to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail (AS) in obedience to Allah's command.
A long holiday began on May 25, with government, semi-government, autonomous, and private offices remaining closed until May 31. Emergency services, including hospitals, electricity, water, gas, internet, and postal services, will remain operational. Media outlets have announced a five-day holiday.
