Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, Afroza Khanam Rita, visited Heathrow International Airport in London on June 2, where she observed airport operations, ground handling services, and passenger service facilities, according to a statement shared by the Bangladesh High Commission in London.

During the visit, the minister toured various operational areas of Heathrow Airport, one of the world’s busiest international aviation hubs. She monitored passenger service systems, security management, baggage handling operations, immigration procedures, and technology-driven airport facilities.

A key part of the visit included an inspection of ground handling and passenger service facilities operated by Menzies Aviation, one of the world’s leading airport service providers. The minister reviewed operational procedures and service delivery mechanisms employed by the company and gained firsthand insights into global best practices in airport services and management.

An official of the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry said the visit was aimed at learning from the experiences and best practices of leading global airports to support Bangladesh's efforts to upgrade its airports to international standards.

The official noted that exposure to modern airport management systems would help modernize airport operations, enhance passenger services, and improve overall efficiency across the country's aviation sector.

The official also said the government is implementing a range of initiatives to reform and develop Bangladesh's civil aviation industry through infrastructure development, technological modernization, and strengthened international cooperation.

Later, Afroza Khanam visited the London office of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, where she reviewed the national flag carrier's operations and customer service activities. During the visit, she exchanged views with officials and provided guidance aimed at improving operational performance, service delivery, and passenger satisfaction. Acting High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam accompanied the minister during both visits.
