DNCC warns of action against noise pollution near airport
The airport area has been declared a silent zone. From today, no noise pollution will be tolerated there, said DNCC
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Safiqul Islam Khan on Friday warned of strict action against noise pollution in the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) area, which has been declared a silent zone.
He made the announcement while addressing a noise-awareness rally and discussion at Gulshan-2 Circle on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The programme was jointly organised by DNCC, the Department of Environment (DoE), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
"The airport area has been declared a silent zone. From today, no noise pollution will be tolerated there. Anyone violating the law will face action in accordance with the law," he said.
Safiqul Islam said Gulshan, Banani, Niketan and Baridhara had also been designated as silent zones and stressed the need for public cooperation to reduce noise and air pollution in the city.
Director General of the Department of Environment Dr Lutfor Rahman highlighted the measures being taken to control noise pollution.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of DMP Anisur Rahman said the Traffic Division had stepped up efforts to curb noise pollution since being empowered under the Noise Pollution Control Rules, 2025.
He expressed hope that city residents would gradually benefit from the initiatives and urged all citizens to support noise-control measures.
Representatives of local communities, government agencies, environmental organisations and civil society attended the programme.
