IAF AN-32 crashes during landing in Assam
Pilot feared dead as rescue, probe efforts continue
An Indian Air Force (IAF) AN-32 transport aircraft crashed at Roureah Air Force Station in Assam's Jorhat district on Saturday.
The aircraft reportedly went down within the airbase while attempting to land, reports India-based news outlet News 18.
Sources said the pilot is feared dead. Information about other crew members was not immediately available.
"A military aircraft crashed at the Air Force Station in Jorhat, Assam, during landing. The aircraft involved was an AN-32 cargo plane used for transporting supplies. The accident occurred while the aircraft was attempting to land at the airbase. There are fears that the pilot may have lost his life in the crash. Further details are awaited as rescue and investigation efforts continue at the site," the IAF said.
Emergency teams have been deployed to the crash site, while further details are awaited.
Roureah Air Force Station is a key IAF installation in the Northeast and plays an important role in air operations across the region.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. The AN-32 has been involved in around 22 crashes in India since 1986. The latest incident involving the aircraft occurred in 2025. Despite its accident record, the AN-32 remains one of the IAF's most widely used transport aircraft and continues to play a vital role in logistics and operational missions.
The crash comes months after an IAF Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet went down at Inglong Ekopi Hill in Karbi Anglong district during a routine training mission about 60km from Jorhat Air Base.
