Bangladesh and Switzerland have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the civil aviation sector, with a focus on expanding bilateral engagement and exploring new business opportunities.

The discussion took place during a courtesy meeting between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli at the ministry's conference room in Dhaka on Tuesday.

During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of further deepening the long-standing relationship between Bangladesh and Switzerland and agreed to explore new areas of cooperation, particularly in civil aviation and related services.

The Swiss ambassador expressed Switzerland's strong interest in working more closely with Bangladesh's aviation sector and highlighted opportunities for greater collaboration between stakeholders in the two countries.

A key issue discussed was the interest of Swissport, a leading Swiss aviation services company, in participating in ground handling operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The minister and state minister welcomed the proposal and invited the company to submit a formal offer, assuring that it would receive due consideration.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and building long-term partnerships in areas of mutual interest, particularly aviation services and airport operations.
