Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the world's busiest aviation hubs, suspended all flight operations on Saturday after authorities intercepted a drone approaching the airfield, with debris from the downed aircraft falling onto the runway, according to official statements.

The Dubai government media office confirmed that air defense systems successfully intercepted the unmanned aerial vehicle before it could pose a greater threat. "The remnants of the drone that was dealt with fell in the airport area, and work is underway to remove them," the statement read, adding that authorities are taking "necessary measures to ensure flight safety."

Dubai Airports, the operator of DXB, issued an urgent advisory to passengers: "Due to the current situation, flights are temporarily suspended. We are working to restore operations as soon as possible. Please check with your airline for flight updates and allow extra travel time."

The suspension triggered immediate disruptions across the global aviation network. Emirates Airlines, the region's largest carrier, announced the cancellation of all flights from 12:00 noon until midnight, with affected passengers advised not to travel to the airport during the suspension period. Flydubai similarly halted all departures until further notice, urging passengers to verify flight status through its official website before heading to the airport.

Passengers already at the airport reported chaotic scenes as departures boards flickered with cancellations and delays. Travelers bound for destinations across Europe, Asia, and North America found themselves stranded amid heightened security presence throughout the terminal.

The incident comes just days after Dubai Airport partially resumed operations following disruptions during "Operation Epic Fury," the US-Israeli military strikes that began February 28. The latest drone interception underscores persistent security challenges facing Gulf aviation infrastructure amid ongoing regional tensions.

Dubai Airshow organisers, currently preparing for the biennial aviation exhibition scheduled later this month, have yet to comment on whether the incident might affect planned demonstrations and industry gatherings.

Authorities deployed specialized teams to clear debris from affected runway areas, with initial assessments suggesting no casualties among airport personnel or passengers. Dubai's Civil Aviation Authority is leading an investigation into the drone's origin and intended target.

Passengers holding tickets on affected flights have been advised to contact their airlines directly to rebook options and to monitor official Dubai Airports channels for updates on when normal operations will resume.
