The United Arab Emirates has expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation with Bangladesh in the civil aviation and tourism sectors, including potential involvement of Dubai National Air Travel Agency (dnata) in ground handling services at the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdulla Ali Abdulla Alhmoudi expressed the interest while making a courtesy call on Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday morning, says a press release.

According to the ministry release, both sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the UAE, with particular focus on aviation development, tourism expansion, investment opportunities and enhanced mutual cooperation.

During the meeting, the UAE ambassador conveyed dnata’s interest in providing ground handling services at the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Responding to the proposal, State Minister Millat briefed the ambassador on the progress of preparatory work for the inauguration of the Third Terminal. He said the government would take necessary decisions and communicate further developments once the ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) activities become fully operational.

Minister Afroza Khanam said the government remained committed to improving service quality at the country’s main international gateway and ensuring modern passenger facilities at the airport.

The UAE ambassador also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to working closely with the current government of Bangladesh to advance cooperation in the aviation and tourism sectors.

The meeting reflects growing engagement between Bangladesh and the UAE as Dhaka moves ahead with major aviation infrastructure expansion projects, including the launch of the long-awaited Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
