Iran allows 6 Bangladeshi ships to cross Strait of Hormuz: envoy
Speaking to reporters at the Iranian Embassy, he said Iran’s Security Council had granted clearance for the ships, adding that Dhaka and Tehran are working in coordination to ensure their safe return
Iran has authorised six stranded Bangladeshi vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi said on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters at the Iranian Embassy, he said Iran’s Security Council had granted clearance for the ships, adding that Dhaka and Tehran are working in coordination to ensure their safe return, reports UNB.
Referring to the evolving situation in the Middle East, the ambassador alleged that the United States had effectively pushed the region towards war.
He further claimed that while the previous US administration had avoided what he described as an Israeli “trap”, President Donald Trump had fallen into it under Israeli influence.
The envoy stressed that efforts would be made to prevent suffering among Muslims in the region.
He also noted that Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr Khalilur Rahman, had written to his Iranian counterpart on Tuesday, thanking Iran for its support in facilitating the safe return of Bangladeshi nationals.
Describing bilateral ties as fraternal, the ambassador said Iran regards Bangladesh as a brotherly nation and expects reciprocal support during challenging times.
Referring to the UN Charter, he said acts of aggression by one state against another are unlawful, adding that Iran considers itself a victim of such actions.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s status as a Muslim-majority country and its membership of the United Nations and the OIC, he said Iran expects Dhaka to strongly condemn what he termed aggression and the killing of women and children.
