Bridge collapse snaps Rangamati-Bandarban road link
The bridge collapsed after being overwhelmed by the strong current of swollen floodwaters following days of incessant rain.

Road communication between Rangamati and Bandarban was severed on Saturday after a bridge collapsed under the force of floodwaters triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in Chattogram’s Rangunia upazila.

The bridge, located at Dudhpukuria-Padua, about 20 kilometres from Bandarban town, gave way on Saturday morning, bringing all vehicular movement along the Rangamati-Bandarban road to a halt.

According to local sources, the bridge collapsed after being overwhelmed by the strong current of swollen floodwaters following days of incessant rain.

The disruption has left commuters, students and workers on both sides of the road stranded, causing significant hardship for people travelling for work, education and emergency services.

Local residents urged the authorities to arrange an alternative crossing immediately and accelerate the construction of a replacement bridge to restore connectivity.

Officials from the local administration and the relevant authorities visited the site after the incident to assess the damage. Authorities said steps are being taken to determine the extent of the damage and restore road communication as quickly as possible.
