Cox’s Bazar, the country’s premier seaside destination, has turned into a vibrant celebration hub ahead of Pahela Baishakh, with hotels, resorts and beach zones rolling out cultural and recreational programmes for visitors.

The entire coastal city is now decorated in festive colours as preparations continue across star-rated hotels and tourism facilities, reports Somoy News. Although hotel bookings have not fully met expectations, operators have organised extensive programmes to welcome tourists and create a festive environment.

Hotel premises and surrounding areas have been decorated with traditional alpana artwork, while Baishakhi fair stalls, banners and cultural installations have been set up to reflect the spirit of the Bangla New Year.

At Hotel Cox’s Today, Manager Tasbia said visitors will enjoy a pitha festival, mehendi events and live Baul music performances. She said the arrangements are aimed at ensuring tourists experience the full festive atmosphere.

At Hotel Ocean Paradise, staff member Misu said a three-day programme has been arranged featuring a Baishakhi fair and a buffet lunch priced at Tk 1,799. He added that, unlike previous years, this year’s events have been opened to all visitors, not only in-house guests, and will include cultural shows and recreational activities.

Beyond hotels, the sandy beach itself has become a major attraction, with Baishakhi fairs and cultural programmes drawing crowds. Tourism stakeholders expect increased visitor arrivals during the holiday period, which they believe will help revive the local tourism economy.

The Kolatoli Marine Drive Hotel-Motel Owners Association General Secretary M Mukim Khan said Pahala Boishakh traditionally brings a large number of tourists to Cox’s Bazar, creating a festive environment and boosting business activity across the hospitality sector.
Tourist Police have strengthened security arrangements to ensure safe celebrations for visitors.

Tourist Police Inspector Jahid Hossain said a multi-layer security system has been deployed across major beach points, including Sugandha, Laboni, Kolatoli and Inani. He said patrol teams, mobile units and motorcycle teams will remain active 24 hours a day for three days.

He added that quick response teams have also been kept ready, and visitors can contact the Cox’s Bazar control room at 01320-160000 in case of emergencies.

Authorities have extended New Year greetings, expressing hope for a safe and joyful celebration.
With colourful decorations, cultural programmes and strengthened security measures, Cox’s Bazar is fully prepared to welcome tourists as Pahela Boishakh festivities begin across the coastal city.
