This information was released at the regular press briefing of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Division at the Secretariat today. During the briefing, Joint Secretary Monir Hossain Chowdhury informed journalists that according to data received from district administrations across 64 districts, a total of 391 raids were conducted, resulting in 191 cases and fines totaling Tk 9,35,070. During this period, one individual in Satkhira district was sentenced to two months in prison, one individual in Chandpur district was sentenced to one year in prison, and one individual in Gazipur district was sentenced to one month in prison. A total of 87,700 liters of fuel were seized from the 64 districts, including 67,400 liters of diesel, 6,444 liters of octane, and 13,856 liters of petrol.
Additionally, magistrates from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division have continued their regular operations in areas including Uttara Beribandh, Gabtoli, Amin Bazar, and other locations in the capital, while monitoring the fuel supply situation. During this time, fuel was seen being sold openly on the roadside in the Dhaka Uttara Beribandh area. Shopkeepers fled as soon as the mobile court vehicle was spotted. From that shop, 100 liters of diesel and 10 liters of octane were seized. The seized fuel was sold to consumers through a nearby filling station, and the proceeds will be deposited into the government treasury via a challan.
The briefing further stated that in line with a decision made at an online meeting held on March 27, 2026 (Friday), chaired by Mohammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, a Tag Officer has been appointed for every petrol pump across the country. In Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, BPC (Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation) has appointed Tag Officers. Outside these metropolitan areas, in district and divisional cities, the respective Deputy Commissioners, and at the upazila level, Upazila Executive Officers have appointed a government officer as Tag Officer for each petrol pump under their jurisdiction. The Tag Officers will operate according to the procedure determined by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division/BPC, take necessary steps as per directives from higher authorities, and submit reports.
The division-wise number of Tag Officers was also provided during the briefing. Instructions have been given for the following officers to serve as Tag Officers: 479 officers in 13 districts of Dhaka Division; 330 officers in 11 districts of Chattogram Division; 340 officers in 8 districts of Rajshahi Division; 301 officers in 10 districts of Khulna Division; 356 officers in 8 districts of Rangpur Division; 61 officers in 6 districts of Barishal Division; 104 officers in 4 districts of Mymensingh Division; and 135 officers in 4 districts of Sylhet Division.
Additionally, 116 officers have been instructed to serve as Tag Officers in Dhaka Metropolitan Area, and 62 officers in Chattogram Metropolitan Area.
During the briefing, it was also reported that as of March 31, 2026, the actual stock of diesel is 1,28,939 metric tons, octane is 7,940 metric tons, petrol is 11,431 metric tons, and jet fuel is 44,609 metric tons. Considering this situation, the public was once again assured that there is no fuel crisis in the country.
