Travel disruption continued at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday, as 25 more flights were cancelled, extending the ongoing crisis triggered by the Middle East security situation.
The latest cancellations follow the continued closure of airspace by several Middle Eastern countries — including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan — after regional tensions escalated on February 28.
Airport officials said the following flights were cancelled until 12:00pm on Wednesday:
• Qatar Airways – 4 flights
• Kuwait Airways – 2 flights
• Jazeera Airways – 2 flights
• Air Arabia – 8 flights
• Emirates – 5 flights
• US-Bangla Airlines – 4 flights
With these additions, the total number of flights cancelled since February 28 has risen to 173.
Passengers — particularly migrant workers and business travellers bound for Middle Eastern destinations — continue to face significant hardship amid uncertainty, limited information and difficulties in rescheduling tickets. Many have spent hours at the airport waiting for updates, while others are struggling to reorganise their travel plans as the situation remains fluid.
Authorities have advised passengers to maintain close contact with their respective airlines and confirm flight schedules before heading to the airport.
