No risk of Eid train disruption: Rail secretary
Authorities are working actively to ensure smooth and comfortable journey
Bangladesh Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam has said there is no risk of major train schedule disruptions during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha travel rush, assuring passengers that authorities are working actively to ensure smooth and comfortable journeys.
Speaking to reporters after visiting Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka on Saturday, the secretary said Bangladesh Railway has strengthened coordination among different departments ahead of the holiday season.
“We are fully alert and coordinating internally. We hope passengers will experience a comfortable Eid journey this year,” he said.
The rail secretary also said authorities are taking strict measures to prevent passengers from travelling on train rooftops, which remains a recurring issue, particularly on routes to northern districts.
“We have noticed a tendency among some passengers, especially those travelling to northern Bangladesh, to ride on train roofs. This is extremely risky both for railway operations and for the passengers themselves,” he said.
Fahimul Islam said Bangladesh Railway has deployed vigilance teams to closely monitor stations and train movements during the Eid rush.
He added that a three-tier security system has been put in place and additional manpower deployed to strengthen safety and crowd management at railway stations.
“Special attention is being given to prevent unauthorised entry into stations at night,” he said.
Every year, millions of people leave Dhaka and other major cities to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families in different parts of the country, making rail travel one of the busiest transport sectors during the holiday period.
