Extra coaches added to 9 trains for Eid journey
The extra coaches, both for economy class and air-conditioned ones, will be added between 23 May and 7 June on different schedules, to provide improved travel facilities for holidaymakers
In preparation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holiday, Bangladesh Railway’s Western Zone has announced special arrangements to accommodate the expected surge in passengers. A special train service will operate between Joydebpur and Parbatipur, while nine intercity trains will receive additional coaches to increase passenger capacity.
According to railway officials, the extra coaches will be added between 23 May and 7 June on different schedules. Both Shovon (economy class) and air-conditioned coaches will be included to provide improved travel facilities for holidaymakers.
Additional coaches will be attached to the Nilphamari/Rocket Express and Sirajganj Express from 23 May to 6 June. Railway authorities said one extra coach will be added before Eid, while two additional coaches will operate after Eid. The added coaches will include both Shovon and AC compartments.
Several Rajshahi-bound services, including the Bonolota Express, Silk City Express, Padma Express and Dhumketu Express, will also operate with extra coaches during the Eid period.
For passengers travelling to northern districts, the Drutojan Express, Panchagarh Express and Ekota Express will also receive additional coaches before and after Eid. However, authorities confirmed that Train No. 793, the Panchagarh Express, will remain suspended on 27 May.
Railway officials said the increased passenger capacity will mainly be available from 23 May to 27 May ahead of Eid, and again from 29 May to 7 June after the holiday.
Meanwhile, workers at the Saidpur Railway Workshop in Nilphamari are working extended hours to repair and prepare old coaches for Eid operations.
Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, Divisional Superintendent of the Saidpur Railway Workshop, said that a total of 127 coaches are being prepared for Eid services on routes including Dhaka and Chattogram. Of these, 103 coaches have already been handed over to the Pakshi and Lalmonirhat railway divisions, while the remaining coaches are expected to be delivered within the next few working days.
Western Railway General Manager Farid Ahmed confirmed the arrangements, stating that the special Eid train between Joydebpur and Parbatipur, along with the additional coaches on nine intercity services, aims to ensure smoother and more comfortable travel for passengers during the festive season.
