Bangladesh and Spain focus on migration of skilled manpower, trade, people-to-people connectivity, Rohingya support, LDC graduation and an FTA
Bangladesh and Spain have agreed to deepen ties, focusing on migration, skills development and people-to-people connectivity. The discussion came during Spanish Ambassador Gabriel María Sistiaga Ochoa de Chinchetru’s call on State Minister Shama Obaed Islam at the foreign ministry on Sunday.
The two nations explored joint efforts in trade, investment, supply chains, railways, sports, culture, education, and security. Migrant worker exchanges and human connectivity were key talking points, as both sides showed interest in expanding skilled worker mobility and institutional partnerships.
The Spanish envoy congratulated Dhaka on being elected to lead the 81st UN General Assembly session (2026–2027). The state minister called for global attention on the Rohingya crisis and requested Madrid’s support at the UNGA for Bangladesh’s LDC graduation.
Both sides highlighted the need for an FTA with the European Union to enhance bilateral trade. Regular consultations and high-level visits were also proposed to sustain momentum. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on regional and global affairs, stressing peace, stability, and enhanced international cooperation.
