Bangladesh aims to send 1.4 million workers abroad in the next fiscal year, as diplomatic efforts continue to reopen labour markets in Malaysia, Oman, UAE, and Bahrain
The government has set a target of sending approximately 1.4 million Bangladeshi workers to overseas job markets in the next fiscal year as part of its efforts to expand foreign employment opportunities.
The information was disclosed on Monday by State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur while responding on behalf of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury during the second sitting of the second session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
The session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal.
Replying to a starred question from Dhaka-1 lawmaker Khandaker Abu Ashfaq, the state minister said that a total of 933,815 Bangladeshi workers secured overseas employment between July 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026.
He said the government continues its efforts to expand overseas employment opportunities by sending more skilled and professional workers to different countries.
Nur also informed the parliament that diplomatic and bilateral negotiations are ongoing with Malaysia, Oman, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain to reopen and expand labour markets where the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers is currently suspended or restricted.
The government expects that the expansion of labour markets and continued diplomatic engagement will help achieve the ambitious overseas employment target in the upcoming fiscal year.
