The Bangladesh Embassy in Doha has issued an urgent security alert for Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Qatar, advising heightened caution following escalating tensions in the Middle East linked to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.

The advisory, published through an emergency notice on the night of February 27, has urged an estimated 400,000 Bangladeshis in Qatar to prioritise personal safety and strictly follow directives issued by Qatari authorities.

Key safety instructions

The embassy has specifically requested Bangladeshis to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement and stay away from military installations until the situation improves. Expatriates have been advised to remain in safe locations, preferably indoors, and avoid crowded places.

In preparation for potential emergencies, the mission recommended always keeping essential items readily accessible, including Qatar ID and passport, health cards and necessary medicines, cellphone chargers and power banks, sufficient dry food, drinking water and cash for emergency expenses.

Social media caution

The embassy issued a stern warning regarding social media usage, emphasising that uploading photos or videos related to the ongoing conflict situation violates Qatari law. Expatriates have been urged to refrain from sharing unverified information, images, or footage and to act responsibly in compliance with local regulations.

Emergency contacts

For any emergency assistance, the Bangladesh Embassy in Doha has activated a hotline and email support for the expatriates there. The embassy stated it remains in close coordination with Qatari authorities and will provide further updates as the situation escalates.
