Bangladeshi student to join North Pole expedition on Russian nuke icebreaker
Prottoy emerged as one of the international winners of the 7th season of Rosatom's science and educational project 'Icebreaker of Knowledge'

Malekul Salehin Prottoy, a Class X student of Rajshahi Cadet College, has made the nation proud by winning a coveted spot on a unique scientific expedition to the North Pole aboard Russia’s nuclear-powered icebreaker '50 Let Pobedy'.
The Russian House in Dhaka confirmed that Prottoy emerged as one of the international winners of the 7th season of Rosatom's science and educational project 'Icebreaker of Knowledge'.
Selected from thousands of participants worldwide, he successfully completed a challenging competition that included a science quiz, educational sessions with nuclear industry experts, and the presentation of innovative projects on the future of nuclear technologies.
This year, nearly 5,000 school students from 22 countries, including Bangladesh, India, China, Brazil, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Turkey, and Vietnam participated in the international track of the competition.
The expedition officially began with a departure ceremony in Murmansk, Russia, where Captain Ruslan Sasov ordered the vessel to set sail on its 10-day journey.
The route will take participants across the Barents Sea to the geographic North Pole, the Franz Josef Land archipelago, and back to Murmansk.
Aboard the icebreaker, Prottoy and other talented young participants will have the unique opportunity to explore the Arctic, learn about advanced technologies, attend lectures and workshops by leading experts, and gain first-hand experience in one of the most fascinating regions of the planet.
Expressing his excitement before departure, Prottoy said, "This is a very special day for me. I never imagined I would one day travel to the North Pole. From Bangladesh, the Arctic seems incredibly far away, so I feel immense excitement, joy and gratitude. I am proud to represent my country on this remarkable journey."
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev noted that the Arctic is a place where ambitious ideas are born, adding that the expedition brings together talented young people who will help shape the future through science and technology.
The Russian House in Dhaka extended warm congratulations to Prottoy and wished him an unforgettable journey filled with new discoveries and inspiring experiences.
