Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year, is marked by colourful celebrations, traditional attire and lively fairs across the capital.
Although many of the old-style rural fairs are now part of nostalgia, Dhaka still hosts a wide range of Baishakhi events where families and friends can enjoy the festive spirit.
Here are some important locations hosting Baishakhi fairs and events in Dhaka:

BISIC Baishakhi Fair at Bangla Academy

A week-long fair titled Baishakhi Mela 1433 is being held from April 14 to 20 at the Bangla Academy premises with support from the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation.
Visitors can explore traditional handicrafts including Nakshi kantha, clay products, bamboo and cane items, and home decor. The fair is open daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
SME Baishakhi Fair at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center
Organised by the SME Foundation, this fair runs from April 12 to 18 with more than 300 stalls. It features local products, a variety of food and daily cultural programmes, along with entertainment such as a giant wheel, bioscope shows and traditional games. Entry fee is Tk 30.

Lal Baishakhi Festival at Kamal Ataturk Park

Held on April 13 and 14, this event includes rides, games, photo booths and concerts. Performers include Habib Wahid, Renaissance Band, Level Five Band and Nemesis Band. Stand-up comedy and interactive activities are also part of the programme. Entry fee is Tk 300.

Baishakhi Celebration at InterContinental

A premium Baishakhi event will be held on April 14 at the Winter Garden and Ruposhi Bangla Grand Ballroom. The programme includes music, dance, traditional food and festive activities. Entry fee is Tk 2,500.

Baishakhi Fair at The River Edge Restaurant

A four-day fair from April 12 to 15 offers a relaxed setting for families to enjoy food and light festivities.

Air Force Baishakhi Fair at BAF Base, Agargaon 

A day-long event on April 14 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm featuring bioscope shows, mehendi activities, face painting, caricature, Baul music and traditional games such as spinning tops, marbles and ludo, along with a variety of Bengali food.

Utsobe Baishakh at Chef's Table Courtside

This event on April 14 includes alpana art, puppet shows, Baul songs and rides. A concert begins at 3:00 pm. Entry fee is Tk 200, while concert tickets cost Tk 800.

Orka Baishakh 1433, Aloki

Taking place on April 13 and 14, the event features cultural programmes, food and entertainment in a modern urban setting.
