Singapore Airlines keen to double Dhaka–Singapore flights
The proposed increase in flights is expected to boost travel, trade, and labor mobility, further strengthening ties between Bangladesh and Singapore
Singapore Airlines has expressed strong interest in doubling its flight frequency on the Dhaka–Singapore route to meet growing passenger demand and enhance bilateral connectivity.
According to a press release, the envoy highlighted the airline’s intention to increase the current weekly flights between the two cities. The proposed expansion aligns with the airline’s previously published schedule, which shows plans to ramp up service from daily (seven weekly) flights to double daily (14 weekly) from August 2026 through October 2026.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, particularly in manpower export and aviation connectivity. The Singaporean envoy also underscored the importance of ensuring skilled and law-abiding workers to meet the country’s labor market requirements.
Bangladesh requested the expansion of Singapore Overseas Testing Centres (OTCs) from six to at least ten to facilitate the recruitment of skilled workers. It also urged Singapore to consider hiring Bangladeshi professionals in emerging sectors such as food and beverage, healthcare, manufacturing, and hospitality.
Officials noted that around 135,000 Bangladeshi workers are currently employed in Singapore, contributing significantly to both economies.
The proposed increase in flights is expected to boost travel, trade, and labor mobility, further strengthening ties between Bangladesh and Singapore. According to schedule filings, the additional seven weekly flights would be operated by the Boeing 737 MAX 8, complementing the existing Boeing 787 Dreamliner service.
Aviation analysts view the move as a response to sustained demand on the route, which serves a mix of business travelers, tourists, and the large Bangladeshi expatriate community in Singapore.
