CAAB holds workshop to strengthen aviation security standards
All foreign operators are required to prepare and obtain CAAB approval for SSPs
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has conducted a three-day workshop for foreign airlines to enhance aviation security compliance ahead of a major international audit later this year.
Held from April 5 to 7 at CAAB headquarters, the workshop brought together representatives from 36 foreign airlines operating in Bangladesh, according to a press release.
The sessions focused on strengthening compliance with both national and international aviation security standards, offering detailed guidance on CAAB’s model Supplementary Station Procedure (SSP).
Participants were briefed on regulatory requirements, compliance obligations, as well as submission and approval processes. CAAB Member (Security) Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal attended the programme as chief guest. The keynote address was delivered by Deputy Director and Chief AVSEC Inspector Mohammad Alamgir. Other speakers included Director (AVSEC Policy and Certification) Iftekhar Jahan Hossain, Senior Consultant Group Captain (Retd.) Khan Shahinul Bari and Security Officer Md Ariful Islam.
Speaking at the event, Asif Iqbal said the SSP framework would help foreign airlines strengthen internal quality controls, comply with national regulations and demonstrate readiness during audits conducted by CAAB, the International Civil Aviation Organisation and other authorities.
The workshop comes ahead of an ICAO aviation security audit scheduled in Bangladesh from October 26 to November 6, 2026 - the first since 2018. Officials noted that ICAO’s standards and operational frameworks have evolved significantly since the last review, making enhanced preparedness essential.
Under the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP), all foreign operators are required to prepare and obtain CAAB approval for SSPs at each station where they operate.
To facilitate this process, CAAB’s Aviation Security (AVSEC) division has developed a model SSP as a practical guideline.
Officials expressed confidence that the initiative would further strengthen Bangladesh’s aviation security framework and improve its standing in global aviation safety and compliance.
