Sheraton Dhaka will host a daylong Bangla New Year celebration in its Grand Ballroom on 14 April, organisers said on Tuesday, promising a larger event after last year’s turnout.

The Barshabaran Mela 2026, marking Pahela Boishakh, will run from noon to 8:00pm, featuring traditional food, cultural shows, rides and retail stalls, says a press release.

Organisers said the event has been expanded following last year’s gathering of over 400 guests, with more activities for all ages.

Food highlights

Food coupons will include favourite delicacies such as chatpati, jhalmuri, faluda and gurer cha, alongside a live pitha station serving chitoi, bhapa and teler pitha.

Other stalls will offer fuchka, jilapi, roshogolla, mango juice and main dishes including panta-ilish, khichuri with beef and fried rice with chicken.

Fair and activities

The mela will feature rides, a circus, puppet shows, bioscope, a fortune teller, and modern attractions like VR and arcade games.

Competitions include children’s art and fashion contests, biscuit races, balloon popping and musical chairs, with more activities planned.

Lifestyle stalls will sell clothing, handicrafts, jewellery and gifts, creating a family-friendly setting.

Sheraton Dhaka said the event reflects its commitment to celebrating Bengali heritage.

Tickets cost Tk 2,500, including entry and food coupons, while children under five enter free.

Pahela Boishakh, observed on 14 April, is widely celebrated across Bangladesh with processions, music and festivities.
