Egypt requires advance transit visa for Bangladeshi travellers
Egypt to allow entry only for transit passengers, subject to standard immigration checks
Bangladeshi citizens will now need to obtain a transit visa in advance before travelling through Egypt, following new directives issued by the Egyptian authorities.
In a notice released on Wednesday, the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Dhaka said the transit visa must be secured from the embassy in Dhaka prior to travel, reports TBS.
Travellers will also be required to carry a valid passport and, where applicable, a valid visa or residence permit for their final destination.
New rules for transit passengers
Under the updated guidelines, Egypt must be listed as a transit point in the passenger’s travel itinerary. Entry will remain subject to standard immigration procedures, including checks against entry restrictions.
The embassy has advised all travellers to obtain the necessary visa well in advance to avoid disruptions during their journey. Applicants are encouraged to contact the consular section for detailed procedures.
Limited exceptions remain
Officials clarified that previous provisions allowing visa on arrival for holders of valid visas from certain countries will continue to apply.
However, the new transit visa requirement is intended primarily for longer layovers and will be valid for up to 72 hours from the time of issuance.
The move is expected to tighten transit regulations while ensuring smoother processing for authorised travellers.
