CAAB chairman inspects Chattogram airport ahead of ICAO audit
He visited the airport in preparation for the upcoming 2026 audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization
Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq, inspected Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Tuesday in preparation for the upcoming 2026 audit by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
During the visit, the CAAB chairman reviewed airport operations, security measures and overall preparedness ahead of the international audit. Airport Director Group Captain Sheikh Abdullah Almgir briefed him on ongoing infrastructure development, operational readiness and initiatives to strengthen security.
Officials highlighted several steps taken to enhance operational capacity, improve passenger services, modernise security systems and ensure compliance with international aviation standards. Siddiq also discussed measures adopted specifically to prepare for the upcoming ICAO audit.
As part of the inspection, he visited several key areas of the airport, including the perimeter wall, arrival and departure zones, the VOR navigation facility and other security-related installations. He also toured various operational sites to assess preparedness at the ground level.
During the visit, Siddiq interacted with passengers to gather feedback on airport services and facilities. He listened to their concerns and instructed relevant officials to take necessary steps to further improve services.
The CAAB chairman directed airport authorities to accelerate operational improvements, enhance the quality of passenger services and take effective measures to reduce passenger inconvenience. He also stressed the importance of strengthening overall airport security and ensuring full readiness for the ICAO audit.
Siddiq emphasised the need for strict implementation of ICAO standards and recommendations, instructing officials to maintain international aviation norms in all airport operations.
CAAB Member (Operations) Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob Khan and Member (Security) Air Commodore Mohammad Asif Iqbal accompanied the chairman during the inspection, along with other senior CAAB officials.
The International Civil Aviation Organization conducts regular safety and security audits of its member states to ensure compliance with global aviation standards under the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme. Bangladesh’s aviation sector is expected to face close scrutiny during the upcoming assessment.
