Biman cancels all Middle East flights until March 8
Biman has suspended operations on six major Middle Eastern routes until March 8. Earlier, flights on these routes had already been suspended from March 3 to March 5, and the suspension has now been extended
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has cancelled all its flights to several Middle Eastern destinations until March 8 due to the ongoing war situation in the region and security risks in the airspace, according to media reports.
The situation has severely disrupted the airline’s flight schedule. In response, the state-run carrier has suspended operations on six major Middle Eastern routes until March 8. Earlier, flights on these routes had already been suspended from March 3 to March 5, and the suspension has now been extended.
Biman informed travel agencies of the decision on Friday (March 6) afternoon and requested them to notify passengers about the updated information.
The cancelled routes include Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates; Dammam in Saudi Arabia; Doha in Qatar; and Kuwait.
The airline said passengers will be informed about the revised schedules of the cancelled flights once the situation improves.
According to sources, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan temporarily closed their airspace from the afternoon of February 28 due to the war situation and security concerns in the region. The move has had a direct impact on operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, disrupting international flight schedules.
Statistics show that, due to the ongoing crisis, a total of 245 flights operated by different airlines from Dhaka had been cancelled as of Friday (March 6).
Biman said the uncertainty is likely to continue until tensions in the airspace ease and the situation returns to normal. Passengers have been advised to keep in regular contact with Biman’s call centre or the relevant offices for updates.
