The embassies of Schengen member states in Dhaka have issued a joint public notice reminding Bangladeshi travellers that holding a valid Schengen visa does not automatically guarantee entry into Schengen countries.

The notice, published on the verified Facebook pages of the Schengen embassies in Dhaka in both English and Bangla, said that although a Schengen visa allows travel to the region, border police have the final authority to decide whether a traveller will be allowed to enter.

The advisory urged travellers to carry all necessary documents while travelling so border authorities can verify their information if required.

The Schengen Area consists of 29 European countries that have removed passport controls at their shared borders and operate under a common visa policy. However, entry through external borders remains subject to checks by national border authorities under the Schengen Borders Code.

Diplomatic missions regularly issue such advisories to remind visa holders about their responsibilities and the conditions under which entry may still be refused, even with a valid visa.

Entry may be denied due to insufficient proof of financial means, lack of travel insurance, failure to explain the purpose of travel, or inconsistencies in documents.
