Fuel prices remain unchanged in April despite global volatility

The government has decided not to increase fuel prices in the domestic market for April, despite ongoing volatility in global oil markets. As a result, diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane will continue to be sold at existing rates.
In a notification issued on Tuesday, the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Division confirmed that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the coming month.

Accordingly, diesel will be sold at Tk 100 per litre, kerosene at Tk 112, petrol at Tk 116, and octane at Tk 120-unchanged from March.
Officials noted that Bangladesh introduced an automatic fuel pricing mechanism in March last year, aligning domestic prices more closely with international market trends. Under this system, fuel prices are reviewed and adjusted monthly.
In addition to liquid fuels, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is also determined each month in line with global rates by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission.

According to sources at the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, the country’s annual demand for fuel stands at around 7.5 million tonnes, with diesel accounting for roughly 75% of total consumption. The remaining demand is met through petrol, octane, kerosene, jet fuel and furnace oil.

Diesel is primarily used for agricultural irrigation, transport and generators, while petrol and octane sales generally remain profitable for the state-owned corporation.

Previously, prices of jet fuel and furnace oil were adjusted directly by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation. However, these are now also set monthly by the regulator. Meanwhile, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division continues to determine the prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane.
