Eid-ul-Adha vacation 7 days
The gazette notification said the vacation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha will be from May 25 to 31
The government on Thursday issued a gazette notification declaring a seven-day public holiday from May 25 to 31 for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, also cancelled the weekly holiday on May 23, saying all offices will remain open on that day while May 24 will be the last working day before Eid.
Earlier on May 7, the government approved the executive order declaring May 25 a public holiday during a cabinet meeting.
Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be celebrated on May 28, subject to moon sighting.
According to the gazette, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices across the country will remain closed during the holiday period.
However, emergency and essential services will remain operational.
These include electricity, water, gas and fuel supply services, fire service operations, port activities, sanitation services, telephone and internet services, postal services and transport services linked to these sectors.
Hospitals and emergency healthcare facilities will also continue operations throughout the Eid break. Doctors, healthcare workers and vehicles carrying medicines and medical equipment will remain outside the scope of the closure.
The notification said offices engaged in emergency activities will remain open during the holidays.
It also stated that Bangladesh Bank will issue separate instructions regarding banking operations during the Eid vacation, while the Supreme Court of Bangladesh will provide directives concerning court activities.
For private industrial establishments and factories, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue separate instructions in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, the notification added.
