A Bangladeshi national was killed after shrapnel from a downed drone fell on a farm in the Al Rifaa area of the United Arab Emirates, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM) and Al Jazeera.

The incident occurred amid ongoing aerial attacks launched from Iran, which have targeted the UAE since late February 2026. The UAE's air defence systems intercepted the drone, but falling debris resulted in fatality. Authorities are currently responding to the incident.

Rising Bangladeshi casualties in conflict

The latest death adds to a growing toll of Bangladeshi expatriates affected amid conflict. Earlier on February 28, Saleh Ahmed, a Bangladeshi from Baralekha, Moulvibazar, was killed in Ajman, the UAE, after being struck by debris from a similar attack on a civilian installation. His body was repatriated back home and laid to rest in his hometown on March 9.

According to the UAE defence authorities, since the beginning of Iranian attacks, a total of eight civilians of various nationalities have been killed, including Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Palestinian, and Indian. Approximately 188 people were injured, with casualties spanning over 30 nationalities.

Previous casualties

Earlier in March, Bangladeshi national Ahmed Ali from Baralekha upazila was identified among those killed in the wider conflict, bringing the known Bangladeshi death toll in the region to five.

Other Bangladeshi nationals have also been affected in neighboring countries. On March 8, a Bangladeshi national was killed alongside an Indian national in a missile strike in central Saudi Arabia, with 12 others injured. In Kuwait, four Bangladeshi nationals sustained injuries following a drone attack near the civilian airport.

UAE defence response

The UAE Ministry of Defence has stated that its air defence systems have engaged hundreds of incoming projectiles since the conflict began. On Tuesday, March 31 alone, the UAE intercepted eight ballistic missiles, four cruise missiles, and 36 drones launched from Iran. The Ministry has affirmed its readiness to deal with any threats to ensure the protection of the country's sovereignty and security.
