A ship named 'MT Great Princess' arrived at Chattogram port on Tuesday morning, carrying 12,000 tonnes of jet fuel from Singapore, reports BSS.

Two additional ships, 'MT Term Damini' and 'MT Lucia Solis,' are expected to arrive tonight with approximately 68,000 tonnes of diesel.

Fuel stock and consumption update

As of April 12, Bangladesh had an estimated stock of 22,000 tonnes of jet fuel, sufficient to meet demand for about two weeks. The recent consignment has slightly increased this stock. Jet fuel consumption has remained relatively low, with 21,000 tonnes sold in the first 12 days of April, averaging 1,758 tonnes per day—slightly higher than the same period last year.

Diesel consumption accounts for approximately 63 percent of the country's total energy consumption, with high demand across transport, agriculture, industry, and power sectors. According to BPC, total diesel demand for April is around four lakh tonnes. A detailed import plan has been implemented throughout the month to meet this demand.

Diesel supply and demand

Two ships delivered a total of 61,000 tonnes of diesel on April 3. However, demand pressure has not fully eased. Between April 1 and 12, 133,000 tonnes of diesel were sold at an average daily rate of 11,138 tonnes. As of April 12, available diesel stock stood at approximately 119,000 tonnes, which could cover demand for about 10 days. The arrival of the two new shipments will extend stock for a few more days, but long-term relief depends on continuous imports. Currently, over 11,000 tonnes of diesel are being sold daily.

BPC Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman told journalists that efforts are underway to source fuel from alternative suppliers to prevent any major crisis this month. He confirmed that several ships had already arrived, with more expected to ensure an adequate fuel supply.
