Middle East crisis grounds flights, Mushfiqur Rahim stranded in Jeddah

Escalating tensions in the Middle East have severely disrupted regional air travel, forcing airlines to suspend and reroute flights amid heightened security concerns. Following Israeli strikes on Iran, airspace across parts of the region has become increasingly volatile, prompting multiple carriers to halt operations.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has temporarily suspended all flights to Middle Eastern destinations. Major international airlines, including Emirates and Qatar Airways, have also cancelled or diverted services as a precaution.
Among those affected is Bangladesh national cricket team’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who is currently stranded in Jeddah. Rahim had travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and was scheduled to return to Dhaka via Dubai.
However, shortly after departing Jeddah for Dubai, his flight was forced to turn back due to the deteriorating security situation.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, Rahim said he, along with thousands of other passengers, remains at Jeddah airport amid uncertainty over when flights will resume. He requested prayers as travellers await further updates.
With fears of retaliatory missile strikes and expanding hostilities between Israel and Iran, airspace over Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon has also been temporarily closed, according to international reports. The rapidly evolving situation continues to disrupt global aviation networks, leaving thousands of passengers stranded across major transit hubs in the region.
