Bangladesh explores Boeing aircraft lease as talks advance
Boeing expressed interest in leasing narrow-body aircraft
Bangladesh is exploring the possibility of leasing aircraft from Boeing to meet growing aviation demand, following a high-level meeting between government officials and the company’s senior leadership, reports BSS.
Boeing Vice President Paul Righi paid a courtesy call on Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita at her office on Sunday morning. State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was also present during the meeting.
According to officials, the discussion focused on various aspects of potential agreements between Boeing and Bangladesh’s interim government, including options for aircraft leasing to address immediate capacity needs in the country’s aviation sector.
Boeing expressed interest in leasing narrow-body aircraft, particularly from its widely used B737 series, which are typically deployed for short- to medium-haul routes. The Bangladeshi side signalled its intent to move forward with the leasing process as quickly as possible.
Officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s aviation capacity amid rising passenger demand and ongoing expansion of airport infrastructure.
The meeting underscores Bangladesh’s growing engagement with global aviation manufacturers as it seeks to modernise its fleet and improve connectivity.
