39 flights cancelled at Dhaka airport today
The disruption began on the afternoon of 28 February, when Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan temporarily closed their airspace
Thirty-nine international flights were cancelled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday as several Middle Eastern countries continued to enforce airspace restrictions amid regional security concerns.
The disruption began on the afternoon of 28 February, when Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan temporarily closed their airspace. With Monday’s cancellations, the total number of scrapped flights from Dhaka over three days has risen to 102.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh said 10 flights operated by US-Bangla Airlines were cancelled on Monday — the highest number among all carriers. Air Arabia cancelled eight services from Sharjah, while Emirates scrapped five flights.
Other affected airlines included Qatar Airways and Flydubai with four cancellations each, Biman Bangladesh Airlines with four, and Gulf Air and Kuwait Airways with two each. All the cancelled services were bound for destinations across the Gulf region.
Flights to Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai remain suspended. Operations on other Middle Eastern routes have resumed where airspace restrictions have been lifted.

Thousands of Bangladeshi passengers were affected, particularly migrant workers and business travellers heading to Gulf countries. Airlines are attempting to rebook passengers on alternative routes where possible.
Bangladesh maintains strong aviation links with the Middle East, where an estimated 4 million Bangladeshi expatriates are employed. More than 200 flights typically operate each week from Dhaka to Gulf destinations.
In the previous two days, 23 flights were cancelled on 28 February and 40 on 1 March. Aviation authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with international counterparts for updates on the reopening of airspace.
Airlines have been advised to keep passengers informed of real-time changes to flight schedules as the regional security situation remains uncertain.
