US Embassy asks visa applicants to make social media profiles public
Applicants are instructed to adjust the privacy settings of all their social media profiles to 'public' to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States
The United States Embassy in Dhaka on Friday issued an advisory directing applicants for certain non-immigrant visa categories to set all their social media profiles to 'public'.
The directive, posted on the embassy's verified Facebook page, applies to applicants seeking A-3, C-3 (domestic worker), G-5, H-3 and dependent H-4, K-1, K-2, K-3, Q, R-1, R-2, S, T and U visas. The requirement has been in effect since March 30, 2026.
According to the notice, applicants are instructed to adjust the privacy settings of all their social media profiles to 'public' to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States.
The embassy stated that 'every visa adjudication is a national security decision'.
